Frequently Asked Questions Do you only accept children with disabilities? Equine therapy has proved to be helpful with a variety of challenges - everything from autism to truancy. Doctors, school guidance counselors, teachers, physical therapists and parents have referred riders to us. Some of our best success stories have come from mentally challenged adults. If you think you know someone who might benefit from our services, contact us and we'll take you through the application process. We also belong to a network of social services. If we can't help, we'll try to connect you with somebody who can. At what age can a person start riding? We begin accepting kids at age 3. How can I enroll in classes? Call Discovery Riders Inc. at 937-935-6545 to inquire about available programs and class schedules. How much does it cost? Rates vary depending upon the program, length of the session and the amount of time per class. Discovery Riders Inc. has some funding available through donations and grants which may be applied for, to assist with the cost of the classes. Contact the Executive Director at 937-935-6545 for inquiries. How can I help? We need volunteers, money, awareness. If you belong to a group that sponsors good works, we'd love the chance to make a pitch to your members. We're a 501(c)3 agency, so you may get a tax break for your generosity. Do you have to be a "horse expert" to be a volunteer? Nope. It helps, but some of our best volunteers know a lot more about kids than horses. We have orientation and training for new volunteers and a certified instructor always supervises therapy sessions. Is there an age limit for volunteers? You have to be at least 14 years of age to volunteer, but there's no limit at the other end of the spectrum. We have some wonderful volunteers who are retirees. How can I become an instructor? Check the NARHA website (www.narha.org) to see how to get.
